Today I walked into my college roommate room. He was alone playing FIFA and listening to this song, “Same Love” by Macklemore. I thought it was interesting because he was singing along and is one of the straightest men I know. I asked him why he liked the song and he told me plainly that it had a good beat and that equality is for everyone not just a select few. My roommate gives me hope.

Who is the man that matters? Is it the man with the most power or control? Is it the man with the most beauty or brains? Or is it somebody else? Is it you and me? Is it everybody who embodies good over evil? Is it the person who stands up for what is fair? Is it the person who does what is right and not what is easy?

Today, the United States as a whole is not the man that matters. We have flaws. But it’s to be expected, we have been riding on the same wave for too long. The Man That Matters is about fixing that. It’s about making a difference and showing people what America can be. It’s about creating the perfect world. It’s about making us matter.

Life is a self identifying journey. We breathe and we live, but most of all we do what we do for self recognition. We want to be noticed. We want to have friends. So we live, we push, and we move along. Life is just one big adventure, and if you don’t matter, if you haven’t made a difference, then your adventure just isn’t done.
